So far, I haven't collapsed from the weight of the 3 gargantuan books I tote around with me. Things are pretty hectic in the house right now with Bryce still not in preschool. He starts in 2 weeks, and things will get much easier then. As for now, my dear husband has been lacking in sleep so that his wife can go sit and LEARN.
I will say this, though. I feel blessed beyond belief that I'm able to sit in that desk. I love learning. I love listening to professors give lectures. I love even the few minutes I have in the car, sitting in complete silence, to gather my thoughts and get ready for the brain massage I'm about to encounter.
As oddly as that sounds, it's the way it feels to me... like a good massage. I feel like I'm using parts of my noggin that have fallen dormant, hahaha! One would think that since I do medical transcription and type and edit words like "esophagogastroduodenoscopy" all night that I'd feel academically satisfied.
Well, I don't.
Transcription is pretty superficial in terms of knowing TRULY what is in those reports. Sure, you learn a LOT along the way, but I'd say about 85% of it is etymology and medical terminology.
The magic lies in knowing the procedural depth of those big, fancy words.
It's easy to decipher a puzzle like esophagogastroduodenoscopy once you know how...
esophago = esophagus
gastro = stomach
duodeno = duodenum
scopy = scope
See?
It's also easy to know the whereabouts and the dysfunctions of certain organs or systems... but what about the true functionality of those organs or systems?
One knows that alcohol can destroy a beautiful liver, right? We're all familiar with terms like "cirrhosis." But did you know that the liver detoxifies, helps to break down fats with the bile it creates, produces hormones, and even stores glucose?
It's THESE things that my brain is craving. When I crack open the secrets to the things that interest me most, it makes me want more... and more... and more...
While I know a little bit, I'm still that stark white canvas... and I pray that the painting isn't finished until the day I take my last breath.
